SITTING IS KILLING US - HOW A STAND-UP DESK HELPS YOUR HEALTH

As more and more of our culture shifts towards working on a computer all day long, we're learning more of the health risks that sitting for eight or more hours a day can cause. It's not a healthy thing to sit in the same position for hours on end.

We've known for a long time that it's good to take breaks, do some exercise, maybe take a short walk in the middle of your day. In the last half decade or so the ergonomic balance ball chair has gotten pretty popular. While an balance ball can indeed strengthen your core and help you burn some calories in the course of your workday, in the long run, you're still just in a sitting position. On top of that, there's not much in the way of proven facts that it really does help your back and neck. Some people say they notice a difference, others say they don't.

But what really helps is a desk where you can stand and do your work at. According to the Miami Herald, sitting all day is killing us:
“Sitting at a desk for long periods of time isn’t good for you,” says Dr. Robert Schwartz, chair of family medicine & community health at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. While Schwartz says a standing desk wouldn’t work for everyone — some might suffer with hip or knee pain — he says standing does offer an element of physical strengthening to it.
“You’re using more muscles and you’re unconsciously shifting your weight,” said Schwartz.
If you're looking for an adjustable height desk, there are many different types. Most however are simply built to stand at. We feel that our solution is superior in many ways, but the best reason is that you can quickly and easily raise or lower our adjustable height desk.

This is a great way to ease your way into a stand-up desk - you don't have to stand all day right off the bat. This can lead to fatigue of your feet, ankles and calves initially. You can stand for an hour then sit back down for an hour - or however long you want to sit for. There are many reasons to look into getting a stand-up desk, but the number one reason should be your health!
